Senex is continuing to invest in the future of regional Queensland school leavers, offering two $10,000 scholarships to support their university studies in science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) in 2026.
The initiative aims to remove financial barriers for those attending university and to encourage young people to pursue careers in natural gas.
Since the program began in 2024, Senex has awarded three Surat Basin graduates with scholarships, which also include vacation work with Senex.
2024 scholarship recipient Zahra Manteit has seen firsthand the benefits of the program.
“I had to move from my hometown of Dalby to go to uni, and the extra support that came with it made a huge difference,” Zahra said.
Over two years in the program, Zahra has undertaken a combination of field-based work at Senex’s gas fields in Roma and Wandoan, as well as in the Brisbane head office — providing exposure to the entire natural gas value chain.
“The vacation work has given me an amazing head start to a career in engineering, with so many opportunities to explore different pathways in the gas industry,” Zahra said.
By backing regional students with real-world exposure and financial support, Senex is helping build the next generation of talent for the energy sector.
